Reiki

Many of our Psychics are Reiki Masters, and this may have left you wondering exactly what Reiki is. In Japanese, ‘Rei’ means universal higher power, while ‘ki’ translates as energy or life force. Reiki is a type of meditative practice that dates back to 1920. It is used to help heal others by channelling healing energy through the practitioner’s hands.
By restoring the ki (energy), the patient should begin to feel better. As a result, their vital energy is believed to be restored, and the feeling of being ‘out of balance’ may gradually be corrected.
Origins
A Japanese scholar called Dr Mikao Usui is widely credited with developing Reiki. According to tradition, he fasted for 21 days on a sacred mountain. Afterwards, he meditated beneath a sacred waterfall in order to open and purify his uppermost chakra.
Because of this spiritual experience, Dr Usui believed he had gained the ability to heal others without depleting his own energy. Over time, his teachings were refined and eventually developed into what we now know as Reiki. Today, it is recognised as a prominent complementary therapy worldwide.
Healing Energy
During a Reiki session, the practitioner channels healing energy using different hand positions across the body. However, they do not usually touch the patient directly. Instead, the hands are held several centimetres away from the body, which encourages a deep sense of relaxation and wellbeing.
At times, patients report sensations such as tingling or warmth. In addition, some people experience emotional releases as blocked energy is believed to leave the body.
According to Reiki philosophy, universal energy flows through the practitioner via the throat chakra and into the recipient through the hands. Furthermore, the practitioner acts as an active participant in the process. Intuitively, they are often drawn to areas that require the most support, allowing the healing energy to move through the chakras (energy centres), meridians (energy channels), and the nervous system.
The Healers
Reiki Masters, as they are often known, share many similarities with those who work with other spiritual gifts. However, Reiki allows them to help facilitate healing without depleting their own life energy.
In addition, Reiki can also be delivered from a distance. In these cases, specific symbols are used to create a connection between the healer and the recipient, helping to transmit the healing energy.
Results
Reiki is not generally viewed as a curative practice. Instead, it is seen as a way to stimulate the body’s natural healing processes. As a result, many people believe it can encourage creativity, support mental wellbeing, improve focus, and build self-confidence.
For this reason, Reiki is often sought by people experiencing pain disorders, stress, or insomnia.
