What is a goddess and how do i become one?
Women have played a major and very powerful role in many ancient civilizations and religions throughout history. Unfortunately, this role has been suppressed in many ways by patriarchal societies. Now, feminine power is beginning to re-emerge and we are becoming Goddesses again! We can bring this power into our daily lives, giving us freedom to tap into the amazing and magical sources available to us, and thus the power to control our own lives to a much greater extent
SO, WHAT IS A GODDESS?
Well, they can be found in Greek mythology – Athena, Warrior Woman; Artemis, The Huntress; Aphrodite, Goddess of Love; Hera, The Queen – ‘She Who Must Be Obeyed’!; Persephone, Mistress of the Dead; and Demeter, Mother of Us All. A glimpse into the mythology surrounding these Goddess gives us an insight into ourselves, as there is a little of each Goddess in all of us, woven into our psyches. For example, we all want love, that is a given, but each Goddess represents a different kind of love. Aphrodite represents passionate, romantic love, but Hera wants devotion, loyalty and kindness, maybe perhaps to be put on a pedestal a little! Persephone wants spiritual, mystical love, and Demeter needs to be needed, so wants to be loved for her capacity to be a mother. Athena and Artemis may not even want love, but rather recognition – equal rights and independence, the bigger picture. Every woman is an individual amalgamation of all these Goddesses.
AND HOW DO I BECOME ONE?
Well we bccome Goddesses simply by honouring ourselves, and recognizing the different faces of each Goddess as she is represented in our own characters, as they emerge throughout the different phases of our lives. It’s honouring our gifts and talents, whether they be psychic gifts, the ability to use crystals or tarot, or do mirror divination. As women we go through all sorts of changes in today’s world and becoming a Goddess is a process of self-discovery. When men are persuaded to talk about women, they often complain that the woman they married was more like Artemis, but that they have become more like Demeter – when all they really wanted was Aphrodite! However, men too, have differing and changing energies (ie the hero, the lover, the father, the leader, the protector) and when they can recognize them they can have a greater understanding of us as Goddesses.
